| 1383740 | 2014-09-11 08:13:00 | I got my election letter today with the "EasyVote" card. On the back of it I was surprised to see instructions in 25 different languages (including Maori and Cook Island). My question is, why do we need this translation? I was under the impression one had to proficient in English to become a citizen, right? In fact one would even need to take an IELTS test and pass to get a work permit. So, what gives? |

Maybe they'd be more comfortable in their own country too? If you can't learn basic English, you should certainly not have the privilege to vote. |

| 1383747 | 2014-09-11 11:15:00 | I know plenty of people born & raised in English-speaking countries and families who still barely have a grasp of the language, so do we stop them voting too? :P | inphinity (7274) | ||
