1383598 2014-09-10 07:00:00 Does anyone know if Worksafe New Zealand has an alpine department :clap

Maybe Mount Cook will be declared an unsafe workplace.

1383599 2014-09-10 07:59:00 Yep according to worksafe, scaffolding WITH EDGE PRTOTECTION is required at any height were a fall may result in an injury, and that includes heights as low as 600mm if an injury is possible.

No wonder the cost of building a house continues to skyrocket. Immigration and foreigners is not the real cause at all.

Why can we not just keep muppets off risky places?

The control should be relative to the risk, Never seen what you have outlined out in the real world.

The safety component of a house build is a tiny part of the big picture, Just like the cost of treating injuries far exceeds safety costs.

1383604 2014-09-11 00:41:00 If the Gov't is involved they could send their Mountain Recovery Team that is thoroughly versed in working at great heights due to their daily duties rescuing files from the mountains of paperwork. Expect them to be there before the next train arrives in Nelson, fit and ready for a tea break.

The costs of treating injuries are hopefully mitigated by the lesson learned by the injured. Also, that cost applies to one victim. Compliance costs are applied to every employer on every job all the time. Sadly, we don't seem to be learning much from that, except an endless stream of slogans/mantras. (And an upturn in fluorescent colour production.)
