did you know that by placing a shortcut in the windows directory you can run anything by typing the name of the shortcut into the run command?

You could also do that by editing the path environment variable, or by using search in Windows Vista and later (which is actually more efficient as you simply press one key and you can run anything by typing).

1383855 2014-09-17 02:41:00 Let's not go back to the command prompt...Sometimes you need command Prompt. An example its a bit easier using diskpart in CMD than the GUI. Repairs sometimes are a lot easier as well. :) wainuitech (129)

Sure the command prompt is useful sometimes, but I don't want to use it for day-to-day tasks (yours don't count :p)

1383857 2014-09-17 03:02:00 At least 9 might give the option the LOCK the system into desktop mode (for corporates, Win Pro)
If so, why have the start button showing tile app's ?

I suspect Win9 will be another yawn. Anyone who was going to upgrade from XP or Vista has allready done so.
There wont be any real incentive or wish to upgrade to 9 unless buying a new PC, or unless its a very cheap/free upgrade from 8.
Whats the bet MS/OEMs will end up having to keep selling Win7 PC's for some time , even after 9 is released . Just like they kept selling XP downgraded PC's through Vista & Win7(initially)

Agreed. 95% of users have never seen one and wouldn't know what to do with it. When it comes to using computers, keep it simple and easy to use and your user will be happy and by simple, I mean simple for regular home users, office workers and C level management ,not developers and IT geeks.

1383859 2014-09-17 06:57:00 I see in one of the videos you have the option to use either the start menu or start screen so if you get used to the start screen you can keep it. dugimodo (138)
