Maybe they'd be more comfortable in their own country too?If you can't learn basic English, you should certainly not have the privilege to vote. And while we are at it lets stop people on a benefit from voting as their dont contribute to society and people that have suffered mental illness as their cant think straight and while we are at it we will stop pensioners as well because their are mostly senile. plod (107)

Well I agree up to the pensioners, most of who have forgotten more than you’ll ever know. :D

While I'd usually agree, we need the pensioners to vote for Winnie otherwise we will have a Fruit-loop coalition that will destroy the NZ economy.

1383753 2014-09-12 03:33:00 I got my election letter today with the "EasyVote" card . On the back of it I was surprised to see instructions in 25 different languages (including Maori and Cook Island) .

My question is, why do we need this translation?

I was under the impression one had to proficient in English to become a citizen, right?
In fact one would even need to take an IELTS test and pass to get a work permit .

So, what gives?

Well I just got my voting instructions today and blow me down if Maori isn’t in two different dialects, but Swahili, spoken by over 140 million, isn’t even there!

That’s outrageous!

What a crock of PCBS! :groan:
