1382663 2014-08-28 07:20:00 I went and registered so as to have a look. I am a doco fan and found bugger all to interest me. The only doco? heading was "Factual"

Great if you like that pommy car show top gear and suchlike.

Unsubscribed after looking round for an hour or so. I can still use it for 30 day but I won't be charged and my details have been removed.

Lots more interesting stuff on Youtube which I watch on my tv via my PS3. I can see a use for some folks though.

I spend more time watching various youtube channels than watching TV now. I think that will be the real
competition in years to come.

Lightbox will be dead in the water without content worth paying for (much of that can be found on youtube anyway)
They also have to compete with Sky. So many have tried in NZ and most have been dismal failures .

1382665 2014-08-29 01:54:00 I told them I had an Android phone / Tablet and a Chromecast.
They emailed me back (Twice from two different agents) within 20 minutes saying I was sweet out of luck. One of them said they hoped for Android support this side of Christmas though.

That's me until then I guess...

If they did, why would anyone believe them? ;)

1382668 2014-08-29 05:48:00 I think you'll find that the collection of credit card information (apart from decreasing the data they need to collect after the trial period ends if you choose to carry on) will also have something to do with proving your age.

If you have a credit card you are over 18 and can therefore choose to watch R-rated shows like True Blood and Sons of Anarchy, without upsetting those who set the official ratings on the shows.

Probably, but I had a debit card before I was 18 and it works in the same places a credit card does. So probably not entirely true ;)

The number ranges for debit cards are different from credit cards, so it would be easy enough for them to manage that. But you're probably right - credit card/payment data collection probably just a standard method, as suggested by other above...

1382671 2014-08-31 08:47:00 I never have and never expect to be a Telecom/Spark employee, so your attitude can stuff right off thank you. All you're here to do is have a whinge it seems, without even looking in to what you're whinging about, so you're not only ignorant but make yourself look like a fool. You're the sort of person where if they did it the other way, you'd come here and whinge that after your free trial, your service stopped because you forgot to go and put your card details in! I really should learn not to feed the trolls.
As you had said that "..Lightbox is actually pretty awesome.." before the initial release at midnight, I had assumed you were on a staff trial or something similar.
My mistake - my apologies.

And no, Alex B - this is not "...more of the old anti-telecom BS?.." I have been VERY MUCH looking forward to this being a successful service from Telecom. I hope it succeeds but like Chill, it is not going to work initially in the format I want.
Roll on Christmas !
