| 1382651 | 2014-08-28 03:10:00 | This was seen at sea, 5902miles from any coastline. Also 5903 Ken Its quite common to get this type of thing where two currents meet and may only be from natural causes. A lot of people dont realise that the ocean is peppered with under water volcanos which belch ash and even oil from time to time. NZ has the Rumbles off the Bay of Plenty and in 2009 Rumble 3 had a little hissy fit and spewed ash and rubbish everywhere. Commercial fishermen in the area at the time described a massive hole in the ocean that they thought they would be sucked into. Given that this particular volcano is about the size of Ruapehu you can imagine it was quite an event. Theres a bit about it HERE (www.stuff.co.nz). However, that aside there is no excuse for wanton pollution and some countries need to smarten their act up. That said, New Zealand could join them if our rubbish collection systems were stopped for a month or so. If somebody would like to pay me, Ill come up with some figures for the outcome of a months supply of stockpiled rubbish. ;) |

| 1382652 | 2014-08-28 06:04:00 | Another day we were sailing off the north west coast of Australia. There were oil fields out to the west of the ship (visible from ship, some flaring) and we were passing through globules of some sort of thick oily substance. It was at breakfast time and there were heaps of passengers who had got up from their breakfast looking at it and calling the Gummint all sorts of names, being as the politicians couldn't give a shite, just interested in the dollars rolling in to the country. Unfortunately, I did not have my camera with me to record this. Ken :( |
