1395100 2015-02-26 00:32:00 I have a crappy old Acer Aspire One, that was useless with Windows 7 starter and not much better with Linux Mint.
Just been reading a bit about the Chromium OS.
I understand they make lappys with it installed.
Would it be any better on my, lame machine and if so, how would I go about it?
I loaded heaps of Linux, on here, so no problem making up a flash drive, if I can find the software?
I'm thinking, what I'm really asking, is there someone in the Papamoa/Tauranga that could help set this up?
Some of you, on here, will know my health is not good and I do get a lota "brian fade". Well thats a nice way to put it......
I'm sure a ram upgrade, from the standard 1gb to 2gb would help.
I asked a local computer shop and I sure it was about $180 to do it.
Said was major job as have to take back off, easy, keyboard out and remove mother board.
I sure you'll understand, with my health, can in no way afford that.
I understand ram chips are not very expensive, but $180 go a long way to buy another lappy.

1395101 2015-02-26 01:16:00 You can test Chrome on a USB drive first to see if it works or Not, download from getchrome.eu

As for the Memory Upgrade -- $180 isn't to bad if that includes the Memory. Most of those netbooks only have 1 memory slot so you'll need to buy a 2GB Module. So you would be paying for both the module and a service.

Depending on which Acer One will depend on how long it takes, some do have a removable bottom once you get past the Keyboard removal without having to completely strip it, most its a full disassembly.

Why don't you think the person should charge for his/her time & Skills ?

Quite a process to install RAM :illogical

If you're OK with linux, try puppy or lubuntu.
they are better for low spec systems

Yes of course they should get paid, "A servant is worth of his hire". (

What I meant was it's not worth it, for me, anyways.

I have Mint, 12 or 13 I think it is. Later version didn't work. Something to do with ram, I think.

The get Chrome website seems a bit OTT.
Says, Average download time in regular mode: 417 minutes, in Gold mode - 12 minutes.
Tried 2 or 3 times to download and won't,,,,

1395106 2015-02-26 02:42:00 I just suggested to PJ in another thread to try ElementaryOS, it's very slick and nice, not terribly high requirements either.

Otherwise, I used to use these back in the day on my netbook:

1395108 2015-02-26 03:29:00 Puppy is only 160M . designed for old PC's & laptops , older & slower than you Acer . At least it would be a quick download.
:-)

actually that Acer wont have a CD ? , so you'll want something that can run from a USB mem stick ?
