1383740 2014-09-11 08:13:00 I got my election letter today with the "EasyVote" card. On the back of it I was surprised to see instructions in 25 different languages (including Maori and Cook Island).

My question is, why do we need this translation?

I was under the impression one had to proficient in English to become a citizen, right?
In fact one would even need to take an IELTS test and pass to get a work permit.

So, what gives?

Yeah? Maybe they'd be more comfortable in their own country too?

If you can't learn basic English, you should certainly not have the privilege to vote.

1383747 2014-09-11 11:15:00 I know plenty of people born & raised in English-speaking countries and families who still barely have a grasp of the language, so do we stop them voting too? :P inphinity (7274)

Yes, because they’ll probably vote for a politician of the same ilk and let’s face it they have plenty to choose from. ;)
