1383094 2014-09-02 08:20:00 Hi there Fellas & Fellesses. Time has come to buy SWMBO a new computer device. I have a short list of 3.

1. An Android such as a Samsung Galaxy... www.noelleeming.co.nz This would need a keyboard at $120 upwards.

2. A Microsoft Surface 2... www.noelleeming.co.nz This would need a keyboard at around $160 as an extra!

3. An Asus Transformer.... www.harveynorman.co.nz

Prices are all over the place for these and I would look closely at that before I purchased one or the other. They are all in my budget range. Keyboard is essential as SWMBO is a typist and hates the touch screens like on my Sony tablet. Must also be able to support a mouse for her Solitaire, :)

Any advice will be helpful. I am looking in favour to the Asus mainly as their stuff is pretty good.

Thanks
Ken

1383095 2014-09-02 08:23:00 No idea about the other tablets, but the Surface 2 should support a mouse (Bluetooth or USB) easily :) pcuser42 (130)

1383097 2014-09-02 08:38:00 Depending on what you want to do.

Be careful, the Surface is NOT the full Operating system by the spec's, its the RT which is a disappointment.

•Work anywhere, anytime with Windows RT 8.1 and Office 2013 RT

The ASUS looks like its got a Full W8.1 (But Check) Hence also the higher price than the surface.

The Samsung -- Well its android, so not much to add, its an android Operating system, Android is Android.

LOL. Had a chuckle....

But other than keyboard, mouse, what other determining factors?

1383100 2014-09-02 09:25:00 If it has to have a keyboard why not a laptop or a netbook. dugimodo (138)
1383101 2014-09-02 09:33:00 The Transformer Book T100TA is a full Win8.1, not RT, so will support anything Win8.1 will. They're great, but they ARE an Atom, with only 2GB RAM, and 30GB usable space on the SSD. They're a good machine, but they're not a high-powered workhorse (the T300 fills that role, with it's i5/i7, and 4GB+ RAM etc). If you're just after a machine for email/browsing/media etc, though, they fit the bill well. inphinity (7274)

Totally agree with the moulds cheese reference.

Not sure why you would need mouse when you have a tablet with a touch screen, that kinda defeats the purpose of convienience and ease of use.

Confucius say . . . Who really understands women?

The ability to use it as either laptop or tablet appeals to Symbol . As I said, she dislikes touch screens . I don't think much of the either . Ok when you have young hands, but I find I type most things twice over by correcting typos . :(
