I am having the same problem at the moment with my new computer I havn't tried this yet but u should try plugging the microphone in the back if you have been plugging it into the front imputs or the front imputs if yourve been plugging it into the back. Mayb this will work??????/?

Also make sure no mute the mic boxes r checked in any of the sound control windows.

416955 2006-01-01 04:34:00 Under "Recording Options", have you got the Mic selected as the input?

In WinXP, go to: Start:All Programs:Accessories:Entertainment:Volume Control
Then Options:Properties tick the "Adjust Volume for Recording", Click OK, and then make sure the tick where it says "Select" is under the Mic column.

416956 2006-01-01 07:21:00 I have an old skt370 board... a DFI CM33-EC which has a VIA VT1611A audio codec (which like half the hardware I have, does not exist according to the manufacturer).  :badpc:

I have tried many a driver and many an OS and every setting possible but I have never ever been able to get so much as a hiss to record off it. It has just never worked, and I don't know why. Playback is perfectly fine, however.

416958 2006-01-01 18:31:00 I have found re-installing your sound card drivers often can fix the mic not working prob WhiteWolf4 (3713)
416959 2006-01-01 19:22:00 maybe trying that will make it work, i will let you know if if does.

thanks

416960 2006-01-01 21:26:00 Well, after thinking about this problem I decided to try again at getting mine to work. Here's what I did, based on suggestions gathered from VIAArena's forums: (I'm running win98se on that computer btw)

1) uninstalled the VIA audio software (vinyl deck) from add/remove.

2) rebooted into safe mode and deleted the sound card, the midi synth and gameport from device manager.

3) rebooted normally and then when windows detected the soundcard again clicked cancel.

4) installed drivercleaner and told it to remove everything to do with realtek audio (as suggested from VIA), since the codec is actually made by via but its easy to accidentally install the realtek driver because that works too, and windows will think it's a match (but only playback it seems)

5) rebooted and clicked cancel on soundcard detection again.

6) downloaded the latest via vinyl audio drivers (www.viaarena.com). (all windows OS, btw)

7) ran setup and interestingly it said "no via audio hardware found". (which I know is not true because the audio controller is located in my VIA southbridge and the codec has VIA VT1611A stamped on it (but then the VT1611A doesn't exist according to VIA so maybe that's why) - very weird.

8) so I went to control panel and chose search new hardware and the soundcard was detected... where I manually chose the Vinyl971.inf file (located in 'A1u650a\Vinyl\drivers\WDM') when it asked me for the .inf file (I think i turned "show compatible hardware off" too)

9) then it asked me for a Vinyl97.cat file which was not in the same folder.
and i used the one from 'A1u650a\Vinyl\drivers\XPWDM'. (even odder).
Installation was successfull and when I rebooted the soundcard still worked (lol) and the mic also works now!! :D

I don't know how one is supposed to get the vinyl audio deck control panel to install though.
