| 416535 | 2005-12-30 03:18:00 | I am currently deciding on the specs for a new computer which I hope will be grunty enough to run Windows Vista with relative ease. I note that there is quite a considerable difference in price between the Gigabyte nVidia GeForce 7800GT as opposed to the GeForce 7800GTX I am not a gamer as such although I do occasionally play Role playing and Racing type games. Also I do a certain amount of graphic and video manipulation. My questions are: 1]Would the experts on this forum chose one of the nVidia cards above as opposed to the Gecube ATi RADEON X800XL? 2]given my less-than-extreme requirements, is the GTX worth the extra money over the GT :help: Many thanks for your expert advice. |

For you I would say get the Nvidia 7800GT, the extra money is not worth it if the GT will not even be struggling, not being a gamer means that there is less need for the highest card possible. 2. I said above, not for you, I am getting a 7800GTX but that will be used for hard gaming, for you the price is not worth the performamce. Theres my :2cents: HTH :D |

Many thanks for your expert advice. If you aren't doing serious gaming then the GT will do fine for what you want it for. I would choose the GTX over an X800XL for sure. But then given a proper choice I'd have to vote for the new X1900XTX. |

| 416538 | 2005-12-31 00:53:00 | Suggest check your monitor for supported video modes, grandson recently upgraded his Nvidea card but monitor only supported 1024 X 768 at 85 Hz For higher resolutions the frequency dropped to 60 Hz. 85 is the lowest recommended to not get long term flicker problems. |

| 416539 | 2005-12-31 20:20:00 | Tom's Hardware just reviewed these boards. "Seven of NVIDIA's Latest and Greatest Cards Tested" www.tomshardware.com As part of this, the "EVGA GeForce 7800 GTX Black Pearl" was reviewed; since I like water cooling I was thinking about it, but it doesn't look like it's available in NZ. The "Gigabyte GeForce 7800 GTX Turbo Force" is available in NZ, but only in a few computer store. Google it, and select "Search pages from New Zealand" to find it. |
