416794 2006-01-05 09:00:00 Hello All,

Sorry "FoxyMX". But the question that I asked was a civil question, weither or not Norton is better that a free one as Norton is widely advertised as a main security program.

Here is a screenshot of what I seehttp://img234.imageshack.us/img234/6600/nortonscreenshot4lc.th.jpg (img234.imageshack.us) , as you can see here I can't see an options pane. As of current E-mail scanning is fixed and says that it is running and everything is okay.

I have rang up xtra (isp) and they seem to think that I shouldn't be able to download or send any of my yahoo! mail messages, but I can download, just not send them and on my previous computer (still using the same internet connection) I could actually do both, so I'm a little confused.

Hi Matty3,
Just because a product is widely advertisied does not mean it is good. It is the experiences that users of that product have had that determine whether or not it is good.
So in answer to your question NO it is not better. It is maybe convenient for some as it can come as a whole suite with firewall, anitvirus etc. rather that using individual programmes.
My experience with it a couple of years ago is it did not pick up on a couple of worms I had but Adaware did.
Listen to the people who have used it & not advertising.
Pauline.

416798 2006-01-05 19:29:00 Sorry "FoxyMX" . But the question that I asked was a civil question, weither or not Norton is better that a free one as Norton is widely advertised as a main security program .
Yes, it was a civil and legitimate question . I am sorry if I came across as a bit snooty but I thought the question had already been answered for you and was just trying to reassure you that you could trust the advice that bartsdadhomer was giving you . It is hard to believe that people are telling you the truth when you have been brainwashed by clever advertising and market dominance like what Norton has .

If you do a search on this forum you will find countless threads and posts discussing Norton's problems . You will also see that Norton did used to have a good reputation but in recent years people have had more problems than not . There are people who are quite happy with it and have no issues but they are not the majority these days .

If you want to stick with Norton's and fix the problems you are having with it then that is entirely up to you but you will have to be firm about it because you can expect strong encouragement here to drop it and change to a better program .

416799 2006-01-06 03:29:00 Thank you Foxy MX, I think I will change from Norton, actually I am going to (I had already decided that).

I realised today how many system resources Norton consumes. While it was doing its scan my cpu usage went up to 100%.

In my picture I'm not concerned about the E-mail scanning (its fixed itself anyway) I am concerned that I do not see an options menu on the left.
