Also, try going to Control panel -> sounds and audio devices -> 'Audio' tab -> and under 'sound recording' make sure the default device for recording is the sound card, and not something else.

416967 2006-01-08 01:37:00 Uninstall all audio drivers you have and install these drivers from here. (ftp://ftp.abit.com.tw/pub/download/driver2/realtek_audio/ac97/a376.zip) Agent_24 (57)
416968 2006-10-17 01:42:00 Since the last post on this thread is almost a year old, I would think that most have resolved their problem or have bought new equipment . I have a year old desktop with an onboard Realtek soundboard . I tried the microphone for the first time a few days ago because I want to use speech recognition software due to surgery on my right arm . The microphone did not work at all and I went searching for help on the Internet . I tried all the things suggested, nothing worked . Finally I uninstalled the soundcard drivers and let Windows find new ones for me . Most of the realtek control panels and overlays went away and I was asked only if I was using the front mic or the back mic . I chose front mic ended immediately began working and I've had no problems since .

By the way, I love the Dragon NaturallySpeaking software . I tried voice-recognition software years ago and decided it wasn't worth the trouble . The technology has enormously improved .
