416657 2005-12-30 21:35:00 A few common causes of shutdown problems are as follows
You haven't said what OS you are using so I'm assuming it's XP
After the usual virus & spyware checks try the following

Check APCI is enabled in the BIOS then
Click Start > Control Panel > Performance and Maintenance > Power Options tab.
If there is an APM Tab > Enable Advanced Power Management Support.
or
Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs
Check to see if adobe type manager is there
if it is then remove it.
or
Disable the nVidia Driver Helper service.
or
If you have Roxio Direct CD installed, remove it

I think that looks right..this part anyway:

There could be a number of reasons for this - but the main one seems to be that ACPI is not enabled on the computer or in Windows XP. Here is how to try that out:

1: Click - Start - Control Panel - Performance and Maintenance - Power Options
Tab

2: Then click APM - Enable Advanced Power Management Support

I don't follow the Roxio problem at all..even though there seems to be an interrupt problem with it..right?

Not necessarily an interrupt problem
There are a number of drivers and software apps that will stall XP shutdown the most common ones I listed above, hell even installing some windows updates can cause it to hang
Earlier Roxio products were notorious for this especially Direct CD (which very few would actually use anyway)

416659 2005-12-30 21:53:00 OK..then let me ask......with a small short story 1st:

I "accidentally" allowed the soundcard to enjoy inhabiting the same irq as the dial-up modem on another guy's puter...it too would not shut off. It seems that the soundcard irq will stay alive till the very end of the run time on a computer..right? So..the whole thing would not shut off at all and proved to embarrass me badly.....once upon a time.

416660 2005-12-30 22:20:00 Thanks for all your help and suggestions, I have managed to fix it .

This is what I done, ran Norton AntiVirus, Ad-Aware, Trojan Remover, Ewido Anti-Maleware, and disabled all items form starting up .

Nortons found nothing .

Ad-Aware found nothing unusual .

Trojan Remover found nothing .

Ewido Anti-Maleware found 141 items . :horrified

And I only left all neccesary items loading .

It's Fixed :D

Thanks again for all your help:D
