| 417014 | 2006-01-01 04:09:00 | I have just purchased a web cam which I installed perfectly on my husbands computer. Today I have been trying to install on mine which is a new computer running XP home edition and I keep getting an error message which says "The class installer has denied the request to install or upgrade this device" It is a DSE Webcam and microphone model XH5096. I also downloaded the driver file from their website but that would not install either. Any suggestions appreciated as their tech help does not open until Wednesday | Glen (3203) | ||

| 417016 | 2006-01-01 06:15:00 | What O/S is your husbands PC? Two things possibly. Install the software before you plug the device in - it may then tell you at some stage to connect the device. Is the driver on the CD actually for WinXP? Check the CD manually to see if it has. Or even better - look for another XP driver on the net. |

| 417017 | 2006-01-01 07:30:00 | My husbands comp runs xp as well and no problems on his with the installation I am not sure how to log on as administrator as I am fairly new to XP The driver is for XP I followed the instructions by installing the driver, rebooting, connected camera but of course did not work as the driver would not load properly on mine - hence the error message as above |

| 417018 | 2006-01-01 10:50:00 | this a quite common error with webcam setups and once they go bad they can be a right pain to ever get going again try removing the drivers already installed, delete any program folders and any associated software that was installed with the camera run ccleaners registry cleaner reboot with the camera disconnected once back to windows, plug the camera in and let xp install it automatically. the installation should fail as xp won't find any drivers for it put the driver cd in and cancel the autorun setup go to device manager and you should find the camera (or unknown device) with a yellow exclaimation mark beside it. Right click select update driver and point it to the xp driver folder on the cd cross your fingers and hope like hell it accepts the driver |

I have tried your suggestions with the exception of using ccleaner which I do not have and am a bit nervous about doing things in the registry (I am a senior with only moderate experience) After following the rest of instructions it still would not let me install and got the same error message again re the class installer :badpc: So back to square one!!! |

Have you tried it with all other usb devices disconnected? eg printers, scanners etc There are a couple of viruses that will cause this error namely Klez & BugBear. Have you got an up to date antivirus program? Have you got up to date antispyware programs? Have you got windows itself up to date in terms of Service packs and patches? You should be on Service Pack 2 and you should have installed all critical updates post SP2 You could also do a system file check in case any windows files are corrupt Put your xp cd in the drive, cancel the autorun Go start > run and type in sfc /scannow (note the space between sfc and / |
