417681 2006-01-03 10:20:00 I cannot read mini DVD-RW disks in either the DVD ROM or DVDRW drives in my computer. The disks that cannot be read are video disks recorded in my Sony DVD video camera. They have been finalized in the camera, and will play back OK in the camera, in a normal DVD player, and can also be read in the DVD drive in my laptop OK. Other DVD disks (eg. movies) will read OK in the two drives on my computer. I also cannot read the camera output through the USB into the computer, but I can read it into my laptop OK, so I am thinking that the two problems may be related.
Any ideas please?

417682 2006-01-03 10:36:00 Hey there. Did you encounter any error message(s) in the process of trying to open up the DVD file? What type of DVD ROM / RW your computer have? + or - ?

Cheers :)

417683 2006-01-03 18:22:00 If I try to view a DVD in either of the two drives, I get the following error message:
"Windows cannot read from this disk. The disk might be corrupted, or it could be using a format that is not compatible with windows."

When I connect my video camera through the USB port, the camera just flashes its disk access light and nothing else happens. When I disconnect my camera, the computer locks up and freezes, and the only way I can recover is to power it off with the power button, or reset button.

The DVD format I use in the camera is -.
Both the drives are capable of reading + and -.

417684 2006-01-03 18:35:00 Does the camera have a DV/Firewire/1394 socket?
That is the prefered way to access video and upload it to your pc. Your pc will require the same.

When you connect your camera to your computer via USB port, have you tried accessing the camera via My Computer? It should show up as a removable drive.

Cheers :)

417686 2006-01-04 18:25:00 The camera only uses USB, it does not have a firewire connection.
Funny thing, last night it all worked perfectly, dont know what happened to fix it, but this morning its not working again.???
When it is working, the USB connection does not show as a removable drive - it has to be accessed using the Sony picture package software supplied with the camera. This will download any video or stills recorded on the DVD in the camera, whether the disk is finalised or not.
When the computer is reading the disk, it shows up like any other movie DVD in the DVD drive. Double click the drive and a player opens up and the video plays the same as in a DVD player, complete with menues etc.
Dont know what is going on, but rebooting doesn't help.
PC is runnung XP pro.
Camera model is SOny DCR-DVD803E.

417687 2006-01-04 19:36:00 Hello again. Have you tried using another USB cable to access your video camera?

Cheers :)
