pctek....Yes I have heard that NOD32 is really good..will look into that....
foxymx....I will google spyware blaster & do that tomorrow....I have already immunised spybot several times...
surferjoe46....SP2 is already installed.....I have updated windows XP twice...once today & on the 16 Dec....what is a "hotfix"....thanx...
Today I went to MS to update SP2....I had a problem while trying to find the update.....Before I had the problem I installed the latest version of windows components..there were no Express updates...nor Custom updates...I also did the Genuine Windows Validation....My MS history shows the updates today & the 16 Dec...all OK....I also tried to install the optional Updates but aborted that and will try this week...Then I tried to find SP2 updates and I got the following problem.....The system hung while loading a MS page...So I hit "control Alt del" to stop the program...then I could not log off of xtra....Then the Norton icon disappeared...I pulled out the connection for the phone line & reset the computer....It appears to be OK now...I have run NIS, Spybot & Ad-Aware scans and all is Ok...But while I was trying to get xtra disconnected an icon appeared and kept switching from "CPU usage 0 % to 5 % " what would cause that problem.....thanx again for your help.....

Well first have a clean install.
Second you'd need something like Ghost or Drive Image or similar imaging program. And they aren't free.
It also helps if you have a 2nd partition or 2nd hard drive to image it to.
Yes, you can do it to CD or DVD but it usually - unless the parition you are imaging is small - takes up heaps of CDs.

I have my drive split c: 10Gb - d: 101Gb.
O/S only on C:
Which I have imaged on D:.
So in case of disaster or any nasty infection or other tragedies, I can re image C: back to its pristine state.
I have done it once or twice as its a good way to rid the O/S and registry of accumulated clutter.

417775 2006-01-04 09:16:00 i used to put mine on 6 CDR, this was very time consuming and annoying. but with my new laptop i can fit it on a few DVD R's. i used to use ghost, but i have heard that there are better programs out there, i think im going to spend some time giving a few a trial someday... a clean install is when you format your hard drive, then install windows. you then load up you apps that you will use. then create an image of your partition (you will need to purchase this software)

How many DVD's do you think I will need...I only have the basic programs that come with a DSE Scoop 2400+.....I have not purchased MS office or any other programs yet..

in your case possibly one or two.
there maybe no need to purchase MS Office, you may like to go for a free alternative, open office (http://www.openoffice.org/)

If you want to successfully slow your PC done to intolerable levels by installing that slug fest of a security suit. Other tips for slowing your PC would be to remove half your ram and or under clock your processor.

There are much better products out there. I removed that crap after about 20 minutes (came free with new MB), It nearly made me jump out a window (ground floor).
