| 417850 | 2006-01-03 23:08:00 | I'm having trouble with a ASUS DRW-1608P DVD writer. It writes DVDs perfectly & but won't play commercial DVDs. If I use Nero to convert an avi file to DVD, it plays perfectly in a standalone DVD player & on the DVD drive on the PC. But if I try to play a commercial DVD, the system just freezes. I've tried numerous DVD playing apps, including the ULead app that the drive came with. I'm guessing some sort of copy protection is at work, but how do I get around it? I don't want to copy the disc; just play it. Any clues appreciated. |

| 417853 | 2006-01-03 23:30:00 | Running XP. I've tried WinDVD, Nero Showtime, Magic DVD Player & a couple of others. Haven't checked the drivers since I installed the drive a month ago, grabbing the drivers from Windows Update. I'm not trying to watch it through TV, just putting the disc in the DVD drive on the PC & playing through that. I'll have to check the firmware version when I get back to the PC. |

| 417856 | 2006-01-03 23:52:00 | Thanks for that. I'll try VLC. I know that the region lock isn't the problem, because I haven't changed that & there are still 4 region changes available. |

I am getting the Stargate SG1 DVD's and many of them don't read properly on my laptop or one of my PC drives but play perfectly on a proper DVD player and 4 other DVD drives in PC's. |
