418495 2006-01-06 10:53:00 Anyhow, I always set NOD to do an indepth scan, The speed isn't really a concern (even though it kicks saggy-cheeks), the results are what matters.

And NOD is far far better then its last definition update, a six month out of date install can still find and kill off viruses (though it will miss a few) that Nortons and others miss even when fully updated.

Personally even if the companies concerned had products worth buying I wouldn't give em a cent if they were holding back definition files for home users. That aside, AVG seems to have a constant supply of updates, Its still not that great.

NOD32 for the win, and I still think the thread should have been locked after I said futher discussion doesn't change the facts. :nerd:

418496 2006-01-06 11:07:00 Norton to me does not do that good a job in detecting. I have used corp ver 10 and it still doesnot detect what Kasp and McAfee can. I may have to try NOD, if I can.

Now, perhaps, someone can say which is the best firewall, too?

418499 2006-01-08 04:48:00 Kerio vs Zonealarm is a bit like:

Zonealarm - a slice of one day old bread
Kerio - a warm freshly baked croissant

yeah right, what a load of ****

kerio is good if you know how to use firewalls. ZA is good for those who don't really want to know the in's and outs of firewalls.

418501 2006-01-08 20:08:00 Any rating for McAfee or Kaspersky or Sygate?

I am using McAfee at the moment any idea how good it is?

418502 2006-01-08 20:47:00 We changed over to NOD32 here at work about 1 month ago.
We were using McAfee Enterprise before that.
In that month NOD32 has picked up about a dozen viruses & adware/spyware.
McAfee never picked up adware/spyware.
Servers and workstations also run a lot better.

418503 2006-01-09 02:45:00 McAfee does have its own separate antispyware, but you will have to pay for them. NOD does not scan deep inside archives thus uses less resource.

Any reviews on firewalls?

418504 2006-01-09 04:25:00 I've used PC-Cillin (now PC-Cillin internet Security suite) since I got a free version with a mobo back around 1998. I don't know how good it is cos I've never had a virus! :D
It costs - around $50 a year, but seems to do the job. It updates sometimes two or three times a day and catches the odd nasty.
The corporate bods at work (Wintec aka Waikato Polytech) have recently installed it in place of McAffee on a thousand or so machines so someone else must think its okay as well.
