1357664 2006-01-05 05:39:00 Trev the upgrade probably wont yeild much of a performance upgrade unfortunately. I would be very very surprise if any retailer in NZ still had that CPU in stock. If i remember correctly that was the first 3.0GHz CPU Intel released and also the first to have Hyperthreading? You might have better luck trying to souce a secondhand motherboard that supports 800MHz FSB and then drop a new CPU into that.

You could always have a quick look at the trade & exchange although i doubt you'll have any luck there.

I half agree, going to 3.0 is not much of an upgrade unless you can get a 3.0 super cheap under $100 (taking the difference in selling the old 2.4 into account).

If you are going to spend $250 ish, then do yourself a favour, add a bit more $, ditch the board and processor and buy a AMD64 3200+ or above and board, then sell the old ones.

Upgradeing porcessors on motherboard is becoming a thing of the past from the price/performance gain point of view.
