418848 2006-01-07 01:16:00 Okay, I have recently bought Philips MMS460 5.1 PC Speakers for my PC from Hong Kong. I currently live in Canada. I have bought an adapter that switches the voltage, so that is not a factor regarding the speaker problem. My problem is, when I plug in the yellow/orange, green and black 3.5mm jacks, there are either sound in the 2 FRONT speakers, sound in the 2 BACK speakers, all 4 FRONT and BACK speakers, or just the center speaker and the subwoofer. Overall, all the speakers are working, but I can't seem to get them to work "together". What is the point of buying a 5.1 if the woofer doesn't work together? Please help. Is it because of a sound card? I have tried all the combinations with the 3.5mm jacks (yellow/orange, green, black). All I need is for all the 5 speakers and the woofer to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated. hpratvfrk (9558)
418849 2006-01-07 04:05:00 You might like to check the jumper settings on the motherboard.
Your motherboard manual will give you the requisite settings information.

What are jumper settings? And my motherboard is an AMD Athlon 3200+ 2.0GHz.

418853 2006-01-07 06:19:00 Try going to sounds and audio devices in control panel, / volume tab / advanced. change it to 5:1.

Then go to the audio tab up the top of sound properties.

Then sound recording / volume / options / properties. Change it to playback.

If the center volume has advanced on the bottom of it select it then tick swap center/sub controls.

What do you mean? Where's sound recording?

and what does

"If the center volume has advanced on the bottom of it select it then tick swap center/sub controls" mean?

418856 2006-01-09 05:00:00 You have given info on your processor.
This is not the motherboard.

Did you look up the info in the motherboard handbook, it seems not.

Speedy, who is extremely knowledgeable, seems to assume the jumpers are set correctly; I wonder if they are.

Although listed as a beginner I am actually a registered engineer and have current experience building similar machines and debugging them for clients.

Do you have a friend locally who you can call on, this might be helpful as you will get a third opinion.

418857 2006-01-09 05:17:00 ? I didnt say anything about jumpers .

I dont think there are any jumpers . There are jumpers on some mobos, (like ASUS ones) .

But if the jumpers (2 of them) are removed from the front panel connector, on the motherboard (if the front of the case has mic/headphone sockets, and they're not actually connected to the mobo), the sound if u plug in speakers in the back, wont work .

BUT I doubt this is hpratvfrk's prob, as he's getting sound thru speakers .

Just not thru all speakers .

It'll be a setting in XP, for the sound, (in control panel / sounds and audio devices), that haven't been configured properly .
