2006-01-06 09:41:00 | The first letter on this page (www.caballine.orcon.net.nz) is supposed to be larger than the rest of the text but Internet Explorer does not display it properly like Opera and Firefox does. Can anyone tell me why and how I can fix it please?

2006-01-06 09:44:00 | Yes big T for me with ff. But looks like thicker than usual quotation marks with IE. Maybe the reverse of the usual, someones written something to display in alt browsers but not IE.

2006-01-06 10:14:00 | LOL :D Safari, I wouldn't be such a snob as to never use a Mac if it suited my purpose and budget, whatever gave you that idea? ;) Thanks beama but IE still won't display the big T even after changing to font-size: x-large; BUT I took out the line height and width code and now IE will display the large T . Unfortunately it now drops it below the rest of the text instead of the letters lining up . Out of the frying pan and into the fire . I am using Windows by the way .

2006-01-06 10:22:00 | begs Safari for forgiveness Its just thats what a certain web site stated (apple.com, I think. Dont hurt me, Im teasing) Yes I tested with Mozila, Firefox and IE, Guess want, IE was the only one that did it, so I raided her css file (looked fine). I found also with css testing that IE didnt always play nice with css so I had too find methods that were cross platform ( what ever happened to browser standards set by w3) and that caused a lot of googling and expermentation.

2006-01-06 19:26:00 | That's it!! Thanks Rob . I had actually tried the . firstletter trick but my mistake was to list it as p . firstletter, which of course made the first letter of ALL paragraphs be large . While I'm at it, I'm having trouble getting horizontal rules to be centered in the middle of the page without adding "align="center" . Internet Explorer (darn stupid browser!! ) won't center them otherwise, even if align: center is in the CSS sheet . The code in the HTML file has to be this for IE to center them: <HR width="45%" align="center" noshade /> It won't even center the HR in a centered DIV or P . Any ideas or do I have to have the above code each time?
