418618 2006-01-06 00:48:00 Have you checked the HDD cable?? some IDE can be quite hard to push in and some SATA can be a bit loose.

Remember do not fold SATA cables at sharp angles...

Checking the SMART status of the drive might be a good idea too.

Checked, but I don't think that is the cause as that would make the whole disk not detected.

actually it can somtimes just cause a lot of errors which can cause werid problems, but the disk will detect just fine.

418621 2006-01-06 03:04:00 firstly run chkdsk and see what it reports. 2nd run seagate seatools and it will tell if any problems with drive.

this sort of thing can happen if there was a fault in the partitioning, driver problems, heat problems, virus's and i've even had some hardrive tools cause this.

test the drive before replaceing it as there may be nothing wrong with it.

I tried to run chkdsk on the first partition it says:

"Disk check could not be performed because exclusive access to the drive could not be obtained. Do you want to schedule a disk check the next time you restart your computer?"

Tried on 2nd partition, no error. Reboot and let it run chkdsk, no error. Will try seagate seatools tonight, thanks.
