418880 2006-01-07 02:33:00 Find out what the brand/model of the motherboard is .

Or what kind of system it is: ie: HP, Acer etc .

Then go to the site, and see what the motherboard can handle, in the way of ram / the CPU .

418882 2006-01-07 03:24:00 A quick way of finding your motherboard model is to use a System Information program such as Belarc (www.belarc.com) if you do not have the motherboard manual or details handy. Jen (38)
418883 2006-01-07 03:43:00 First of all I will stop there becos, you have a P3 and you want to upgrade that .

I would get a new motherboard and new CPU which each can be had for under $100 . The P3 motherboard is too restricted . Then add own RAM and video card on that .

You can use the old case and power pack if they ATX stds .

If you wanna keep the motherboard then it would be somewhere on the P3 line again, you won't be able to get to P4 on that same motherboard . So find the motherboard what it is as Jen said, then go to the manufacturer site and check with CPU and how much RAM can be added to it . For graphics it can be PCI or if it has AGP then that can be a option if such a card slot exist .

418884 2006-01-07 04:51:00 This is what I do.
Spend $300 for Intel Celeron or AMD Sempron, new motherboard and new 512MB Ram. Keep ur current HDD and CD and DVD Drives. That's it. A $300 gift more bang for buck than upgrading old style RAM or trying to cram a better vid card in it when its a P3, most games require 1Ghz at least. Or spend money on another old CPU.

Other than that just give the pc away as its now, it should be able to do school work, go online etc.. just maybe not games. DVD is fine so is graphcis (photos).
