419654 2006-01-10 04:42:00 Ok ive got an old 19' Gateway CRT, brought it secondhand from a friend about 2yrs ago, and at that time i think it would have been close to 3yrs old . It weighs a tonne and has up until now been very reliable .

About a week ago some yellow vertical lines started randomly showing up on the screen, sometimes if i minimize or maximize a window they go away, and then last night some blue vertical lines started showing up . I couldnt get the blue lines to go away even with turning the monitor off and degaussing the screen .

But now tonight there are no lines what so ever . Is it likely that the screen is shot? Could it be caused by some kind of interferance? About a month ago i installed an AP which lives next to the monitor, otherwise theres nothing nearby that i can think of that could be causing any interferance .

Could it be my video card overheating? Its only got the stock cooler, but the thermal pads have been replaced with thermal grease and my case is well ventilated . In NFS:MW on the odd occasion the game does slows down to a few FPS but generally goes away, and ATI VPU recover doesnt kick in . Im seriously starting to think the video card might be running a tad too hot, perhaps its time to get the compressor out and see if some cold air removes the lines .

One side of me is hoping the monitor is poked so i can buy a new LCD, but one side is hoping its a fixable problem as i dont really want to spend the money .

Any help would be appreciated .

If we can see them, it's in the video card.
If we cannot, it's in the monitor
