419581 2006-01-10 02:32:00 I have a couple of minor flaws on XP.
If I use Ghost to back up my c drive, prior to a reformat, can I presume Ghost would have copied the faults, and therfore unsuitable at this time?

419583 2006-01-10 02:39:00 yup
Thank you Homer.
I hope I am correct in assuming yup means yes.

419584 2006-01-10 02:49:00 It's a duplicate.

The only difference between the two drives will be in the "free space" which usually contains random garbage and possibly deleted files. If you want this also (most people don't), use the "forensics" switch.

Yes, but at least you can extract any files (that aren't corrupt) from the ghost image i.e. effectively you have a backup of your data.

Problem with that,is I don't know which one is corrupt.
Thanks gib and drag.

419587 2006-01-10 08:38:00 Basically, ghost will make an image of the drive, thus along with all the faults. If you are concerned with data being lost make an image of it anyway. In that case you will have it if you decide to revert it back. lightfoot (39)

419589 2006-01-10 19:21:00 I made a Ghost Image of a drive once that was thought to be on its way out. Ghost kept aborting due to errors and I progressively used more of the "ignore errors" switches it has. Theres one that is basically ignore everything which I ended up having to use.

I ran Seagate Tools over this drive later and it reported errors which I didn't bother looking up - just repartitoned it, reformatted it and ran Seagate Tools again. This time it was happy.
SO I put the ghost image back on it and ran chkdsk and everything was fine.

But if you know you have some errors, why not do a chkdsk first and fix everything then Ghost it?
