419212 2006-01-08 19:08:00 Well I have been having this problem recently. When I boot my pc, after running through the normal text on screen instead of loading windows it just says either "insert bootable media and press any key"
or
"disk read error"

The only way I can get my PC to load windows is if I put the XP disc in, load the recovary console and run chkdsk. If I reboot after that it loads fine.

Windows XP
pentium 4 3.0ghz
1.5gb of ram

any other info needed I can post as well

419213 2006-01-08 19:10:00 Try running FixMBR georgeks (9122)
419214 2006-01-08 19:33:00 Thanks, i will try that.

I have noticed a couple other issues that have started since the boot problems.

First, my computer makes a fairly loud "click" sound out of the physical case, and locks up for a moment until it makes another "click" and runs normaly again.

Also every now and then my mouse lags, then freezes the immage on the screen. I can still move the mouse, I just cant see where it is. If i cursor over a field that changes the mouse icon, the icon will change but it stays frozen on the screen.

I am at a loss here, and I don't want to lose my PC for a week to a repair shop, ineed it for school.

419215 2006-01-08 20:01:00 First, have you backed everything up from the harddrive (needed documents files etc)

Next time you need to go to the recovery console with the CD, try running chkdsk /r

419216 2006-01-08 22:04:00 The loud clicks, sometimes called "clunks", could be your hard drive pulling it's heads back to try to recalibrate.

Needless to say, it's not a good sound. I'd take it as a warning of impending hard drive failure.
