419740 2006-01-10 05:32:00 :( I get these error messages. "The instructionat 0x6ce247cf" referenced memory at "0x024b68c4" The memory could not be written. Click OK to terminate the programme.
Then up pops The instruction at "0x100536e4" referenced memory at "0x00000000" The memory could not be "read" I have updated all drivers on mother board and video card and have the required specs to run the game. Quake4 and half life lost coast work well.

419741 2006-01-10 05:36:00 That sort of error message strongly suggests a memory problem. memtest86 (www.memtest86.org) might be worth a try. Graham L (2)
419742 2006-01-10 07:55:00 What are your system specs? There is general consensus amongst a lot of gamers that for F.E.A.R. to run really well, 2GB of RAM is a big help. Apart from that you may want to test the memory you currently have installed.

Personally I would suggest that you get more RAM (more than 1GB) to see some sort of improvement. The same has been said for BF2... many people have seen a huge increase in game performance after upgrading to 2GB of RAM.

Not exactly the kind of thing you want to hear but it will more than likely solve your problem if you don't have faulty memory installed at the moment.

cheers

419743 2006-01-10 11:18:00 I had that problem with my corel office 9 years ago... A re-install of corel office fixed it. afaik there wasn't any problem with the ram.

maybe there is also a patch for Fear you can get which may help??

Nonsense.
My son runs it very well (Medium Corpse detail etc) on his 2700+, 1Gb DDR400 and a Ti4200.
It does run better with 1 Gb as opposed to 512mb but its not as high end as everyone makes out.

And even with 512mb - I have seen it run on a low specced PC and all that happened was terrible framerates and pausing - not errors as described here.
I'd go along with testing the ram first, then trying a reinstall etc...

I've had those weirdo errors before on more than 1 computer . and a reinstall of the software fixed nearly always (sometimes it just needed patches etc)

But I have never found it to be associating with bad memory (though I guess checking wouldn't hurt)

419746 2006-01-11 00:28:00 The questioner has "updated all drivers on mother board and video card" . . . so I'd guess that there have been a few attempts at reloading the game . I hear this is a big game . Other, smaller, games run OK . So its using more memory for programme code and tables .

Any messages about failed attempts to write to memory, or any access to location 00000000 ( . . . ) are indicative of pointer errors . Assuming the software has made it to release, pointer problems are highly correlated with memory faults .

Not any worse than Quake 4 which he is running ok.

419748 2006-01-11 01:34:00 A review of a video card I read yesterday said the card did 56 frames/sec on FEAR; 500 or so (?) for Quake 4. A big speed difference between the games, anyway. I'd suspect the size is greater.

But anyway, it's a different big game. That, and the pointer type errors, is enough to cause me to suspect memory being used for critical stuff for the first time.

419749 2006-01-13 03:41:00 I have 3 sticks of 512 ram The original is 333 and the add on ones are 400. I think thats right. Like I said Half life Lost coast runs fine. Do not get that new lighting thing as my G card does not support it. Ati 9800 xt novice (4614)
