419593 2006-01-10 03:24:00 I have a compaq evo D51s that didn't come with a drivers CD, and Windows update couldn't find a driver for the USB ports or the network card.

I have tried looking at the compaq site, but that just confused me - so many different options & no motherboard manual to tell me exactly what components it uses.

419594 2006-01-10 03:31:00 I have found the compaq/hp site to be quite helpful in the past when looking for drivers - but - I can't seem to find a D51s. There is a D510 - would this be the same thing? Is it a small form factor machine? Tukapa (62)

Or this? (search.hp.com)

Never use drivers from Windowsupdate.

They'll either screw things up, or make things worse.

that looks like it.

hmm. I'm sure its an intel pro/100 network card, but all the intel network drivers are gigabit. I'll try the pro/100 management software - hopefully that contains a driver. The broadcom driver didn't work so it must be intel.

I've got the USB ports working now.

[edit] The management software is 66mb  I'll try the gigabit drivers first - see if they work before downloading such a big file.

419598 2006-01-10 03:57:00 Why do people buy comps that don't have driver disks? JJJJJ (528)
419599 2006-01-10 03:59:00 Why do people buy comps that don't have driver disks?

Coz usually theyre on a hidden partition or somewhere else.

I didn't buy it - SIT did & they gave it to me once I completed my degree. They never opened the OEM packs so it looks like it is Compaq's fault that I am going through all this.

At least they included a propper XP install CD. I've heard horror stories of people only getting restore CDs with their computers, or even worse, not getting any CDs & having a restore partition on the hard drive.

419602 2006-01-10 04:10:00 I have drivers for that machine (yes the D51S and D610 are one and the same, but it's a struggle to find where it tells you that).

I have drivers for :

USB (9.9Mb)
Network Card (10.5Mb)
AC97 Audio (14.2Mb)
Intel Graphics (6.1Mb)

If you want them, I can email if you let me know where.....
