| 420045 | 2006-01-11 04:01:00 | I'm running Windows XP, service pack 2, and have lately had Windows Explorer crash almost every time I've attempted to open it by clicking My Computer or double clicking on a desktop folder. Windows Explorer is stable once a window is open (meaning I can navigate just fine), but calling it open when no explorer window is present almost always prompts an "Unexpected Error...sorry for the inconvenience, etc." I keep sending the error report in hopes that Microsoft has a solution for this, or knows what is causing the prroblem...but I've got nothin. So how have I been dealing with this, then? Click OK to the error (or report it or whatever), let Windows finish getting itself out of the Error "slump" it kind of goes into, and then perform the same action that I originally did. Almost always, Windows Explorer opens with no problems and is stable until it's closed... So weird...Windows seems to no be able to open/generate/draw an explorer window until it has encountered this error prior. Sound like a conflict or something? Also, coincidentally, this error always causes Yahoo's Konfabulator program to Unknown Error out as well... I don't think the initial problem is directly related to the program though (read: conflict problem) because I think I can remember using Konfabulator in the past without this level of Explorer annoyance, and I haven't seen/heard of any other Konfabulator uses encountering this problem. Sound like a conflict or something? I dunno, any input...it's becoming a major PITA, and I'd love to get this resolved... Thanks in advance for any input! :help: :( |

Do you have more than one anti-spyware program? Why do you only "think" its clean? Are you using a 3rd party firewall? I'd be making certain its clean first. And I tell my customers, if they use the net often or have several people using it - to scan every day in some cases. A week can be a long time for some malware to play around with your system. |

A week can be a long time for some malware to play around with your system. I'm on all the time...I say "think" because norton (with an up to date subscription, I might add) continues to detect two gain.adware traces, however it can not delete or remove them. And Norton's specific gain adware trace and remove tool finds nothing on my system...so it's a conflict within itself, hence "think." No thrid party firewall...home PC. I'll have to try the SFC scan next... Thanks fr all the input so far! |
