420294 2006-01-12 02:58:00 Hoping someone can help me :) Just before Christmas I HAD to reload my Windows XP Home. It got rid of all problems that I had, but created a new one :badpc: . My CD writer doesn't show as a CD writer anymore. The only way I can get it to write is by installing Roxio CD creator Version 7. I was given both version 6 & 7. Version 6 didn't detect the drive, but 7 did. Please help, Ian :groan: ianhnz (4263)
420295 2006-01-12 03:07:00 Is CD recording enabled for the drive? (www.annoyances.org) gibler (49)
420296 2006-01-12 03:08:00 See if deleting the burner in device manager works . Reboot, after u delete it .

I had a prob with CD Creator 6 when it was installed .

After installing SP2, it created coasters . So, I biffed it and use Nero now, for everything .

Have you got any other programs installed, that use My computer (if CD Creator installs DirectCD as well)? And if u use DirectCD?

The recording icon doesn't show in properties. It did before I had to reload Windows. The CD drive is a LITE-ON LTR-24102B. I tried searching for an updated drive, but to no avail. Does anyone have one?

420300 2006-01-12 06:37:00 Thanks for the :help:& info, guys  . Tried all the above and still no difference . I have been told, by a so call expert, that I will have to do a full format recover, which I am not to keen on . So any further information is gratefully appreciated, before I :badpc: :badpc: . ianhnz (4263)
420301 2006-01-12 06:47:00 If you've just reinstalled XP, did you reinstall the chipset drivers??

And is it up to date with the updates?

Does the BIOS detect the burner, and does the burner appear on the post screen, when you boot up the system??

Excuse my ignorance, but are (is) chipset drivers?

And is it up to date with the updates?
Yes, just updated today .

420303 2006-01-12 07:21:00 Chipset drivers HAVE to be installed after an operating system (like XP) has been installed .

They're installed to properly detect the devices (USB and most probably cd's/dvd's etc) .

They're usually on the motherboard CD .

I would uninstall CD Creator 6 & 7, and reinstall something else . ie: Nero 6 .

Nero 7 still has too many bugs in it .

It sounds like CD Creator 7 is as bad as Version 6 .

Did you download one of the files I posted?? And double click on the . reg file?

Then reboot?
