| 419912 | 2006-01-10 19:54:00 | Hi All I`ve just bought a new Asus 1608P DVD writer. (1) How do I find which firmware version I have installed? (2) I have downloaded new firmware version (from the Asus website) Asus DRW-1608P_FW157EU.ZIP which contains three files R9123009.157, R9123109.157 & UPR9AS.exe. There is no information with these three files on how to install. Could someone please advise how to install this updated firmware? Cheers:Pipercub |

| 419915 | 2006-01-10 20:55:00 | Thanks Trev I`ll try that. As to why upgrade, I don`t know what firmware version is installed and I suppose firmware is upgraded for good reason by the maker for various reasons. In this case: (taken from Asus web site) ASUS DRW-1608P firmware version 1.57 Support new DVD-R media. Improve DVD+R DL writing function. Improve DVD-R DL writing function. Cheers: pipercub |

| 419916 | 2006-01-10 21:57:00 | Hi I have the same DVD writer and I flashed it with Pioneer DVR-109 firmware (same drive) cos it gives more functionality (specifically automatically changing the bit type of DVD+R to DVD-ROM which gives better compatibility on stand alone dvd players. Just my 2c. |

| 419918 | 2006-01-10 22:59:00 | Thanks All. Double clicking the exe file worked fine. Firmware version that came with drive was v1.40 which was two versions back fromlatest v1.57. May try the Pioneer version sometime after I`ve gotten used to the drive. cheers: pipercub |

| 419919 | 2006-01-10 23:03:00 | The ASUS 1608P is actually a rebadged Pioneer DVR-109. They can also use the same firmware. BUT I havent tried this yet. I'm using the 1608P here too. |

Who rebadges this make, or is this just a rebadge of another brand? If I am looking to update the firmware at some time I guess I'll need to know who produces the best options for LG drives, be it LG themselves, or some other name. Cheers Billy 8-{) |

Especially the bit-setting thing which I missed when I upgraded from my single layer Lite-On burner. I have found that setting the bit type to DVD-ROM makes a huge amount of difference to the successfulness of playback on stand alone DVD players. The bit-setting is automatic with the Pioneer firmware and only works on DVD+R blanks. |
