2006-01-12 06:22:00 | Don't laugh, team, but somehow I;ve lost the ablility to open My Computer. Not that it bothers me as I can well do without it, and almost always do. However, for the sake of a clean system, which I've just reinstalled as Win 98SE, I'd like to know what to associate it with. Is it Run32.dll? Thanks in anticipation. eef2

2006-01-12 06:38:00 | Do you mean My computer (as in XP), or Windows Explorer (98)? Just make a shortcut on the desktop and type in explorer in it. See what happens. What does my computer say when u try and open it?? An error appear, or it just doesnt open?

2006-01-12 07:09:00 | Speedy, Win 98 SE. When double clicking on My Computer, the kernel sends a message box up that says" This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in My Computer by clicking View and then clicking Folder options." Well, not being able to open My Computer, as above, I opened Explorer and followed the procedure in the dialogue Box, but "My Computer" was not there. "My Documents" was there and had a generic icon with it. I could add My Computer, but I don't want to associate it with Expplorer.exe because that's not the right one (the one that opens several minimised windows - you know). When I created a shortcut to get it to open in explorer anyway, it had the two boxes greyed out where you would put this information. What do I do now?

2006-01-12 09:06:00 | Umm this entry C:\WINDOWS\RUNDLL32.EXE Did someone move this file? As it should be in the C:/windows/system32 folder. Do a search for this file, (and see if there's only 1 file with this name) right mouse on it, does it show: 5.1.2600.2180 under the version tab? And under the general tab, is it: size 32.5 kb (33,280 bytes), and size on disk 36.0 kb (36,864 bytes). This maybe different to yours. I dont know, Im using SP2, you're using SP1. If it shows the info above, put it / copy it to c:/windows/system32 Where did you get this from? C:\PROGRAM FILES\SPINACH ANTISPYWARE\ANTISPYWARE.EXE I think the prob maybe that rundll32.exe file. Its in the wrong folder. Everything else looks fine to me.

2006-01-12 09:38:00 | I got the Spinach file from Slingshot. It's their special. My run dll file is old and it's in windows not windows\system. What I'll do now is use an undelete utility to try and restore that updated run dll you described so well. Thanks for your help so far - I'll let you know how I got on. Oh, I also used Adaware and quaranteened about 20 nuisance files as well. eef2

2006-01-12 13:56:00 | Here's how I got on: I gave up. :horrified The only way I could get the little explorer window back was when I invoked it from Firefox's download manager where you right click in the manager to get an option to "open containing folder". That's what I wanted wwhen I double clicked My computer. Oh well, that's computers for you...... :badpc: eef2

2006-01-12 20:01:00 | You have a lot of tweak tools - TweakUi, Fix-It etc etc. I'd have made sure everything works properly before installing and messing about with all of those. Which TweakUI did you download - 1.33? Cause the other is for XP only. I notice there is a TweakLogon entry - thats not something Win98 needs...
