420532 2006-01-13 21:27:00 LMAO.

That explains it all doesn't it.

The Dell site looks crap because of how they made it, not due to any fault in Firefox.

Go buy your Dell with the pre-installed Nortons, You deserve each other, Badly.

Dismissed.

420533 2006-01-13 21:50:00 People who service the machines that people buy that are not done by warrenty are the worse people to comment.

Why?

Because they see the worse things that happen. You say that you have three in your workshop now but how many PC's have Dell sold? The failure rate is probably very low in comparison as to how many are sold. You would find exactly the same type of thing with every single item in the world that is sold. Some of them are going to fail and the people that service or repair them will see those. They wont see all the ones that still work perfectly.

You miss the point, The fact is that they are more expensive to fix, Period. Poor design made with an eye on the profit and no thought to the person purchasing the item.

Why would anyone suport such an action?

Because they advertise on TV.

Baaaaa.

You can do better with no more effort or money, But peoples brains must be mush, Saturated with marketing.

420534 2006-01-13 22:38:00 Yeah, its like all these companies that run their bizzo on a PC Company rig .

You want me to replace the mobo, reload the OS and recover all your data?

No worries, That small amount you saved by buying rubbish and a fair bit more will now go me for doing the work . . . . .

. . . . . . . . yeh . . . . . . been there done that and agree 100%

Just a little bit of advice, If your running your books on a cheap comp, Make backups of your data, and start budgeting for a new comp . The headaches will be far less in the longrun .

Especially if its a PC Company rig, They are time bombs .

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . AMEN !!!!!

420535 2006-01-13 22:57:00 It didn't seem as if he was asking for much. When the CD drive on Peter Ulyatt's Dell desktop computer failed this summer, he called the support crew at Dell (DELL ), where he'd bought the $1,600 machine nine months prior. Armed with an extended warranty that cost him an extra $300, the Pasadena (Calif.) retiree got on the phone and waited. After sitting on hold for 45 minutes, a technician whom Ulyatt could barely understand came on the line and diagnosed a "software problem." Ulyatt's call, transferred to the software technician, was dropped. Calling back, Ulyatt waited on hold another 45 minutes, asked for the software desk, and waited a half-hour more before hanging up. "At the moment, I'm not high on Dell's service," says Ulyatt, who plans to buy two new PCs in a year or so. "When I buy again, I will look at others beyond Dell." Cicero (40)

I was just giving an opinion. All of my PC's but one are home built. I have only had trouble with one which had a MB burn out after 5 years of use.

420537 2006-01-13 23:58:00 What gets me about Dell is that they generally come out pretty well in owner surveys . All the techs here say they are cr*p and don't buy one . But if they were that bad they would have gone broke years ago as everyone would have told their friends that Dells are indeed cr*p therefore don't EVER buy one . Unless the quality has dropped off in the last few years of course .

I for one, do not believe DELL's are cr*p . I build my own pc's now . My friend gets the odd one in his shop to fix (or scrap!!) but he also gets a wide range of other pc brands and also non branded ones (and he doesn't keep a tally of the each and the problem) . :waughh:

420538 2006-01-14 00:38:00 I've recently brought a Dell laptop, and am very happy with it. The big factor that swayed me and made me choose the Dell was that i could customise it and add in a few extras i wanted. I considered similar models from Compaq, ASUS, Acer and Toshiba. Receiving my copy of windows on a recovery cd was unfortunate, but thats how its supplied with all brand name computers, and i was unable to build the laptop myself within my price range, so it was something i just had to live with.

I wasnt impressed with Dell's website and sales staff. Their website went haywire in the last stage of the purchase so i had to ring them to complete the order. The salesmen i dealt with insisted on trying to sell me a firewall, and had to be told several times that i didnt want it. Interestingly enough the laptop came with McAfee Security center which includes a firewall. I havent had to deal with technical support yet, and dont intend to either. Unless something fails, and i need to get it replaced under warrenty i am confident i can look after any problems that arise myself.

A friend of mine also has a Dell laptop, hes had it for about a year. He's only had good experiences with it, the AC adaptor failed, but a replacement was post out imediately. A technician also came by and gave him another one(i dont think he was aware a replacement had already been sent). My friends success with Dell was also a motivating factor in my choice to go with Dell.

420539 2006-01-14 01:18:00 I've had a Dell for over two years now and have not had a problem with it at all. They are much cheaper now than when I bought mine which is a bonus. I'd recommend one to other users. Fiwi (6429)
420540 2006-01-14 01:27:00 A friend of mine has had a dell laptop for 2 years now . The dvd burner has failed 3 times and each time has been replaced promtly, each in a different counrty where he was living at the time . Now I don't know why the drives failed because of the amount of dvd's he used to back up or they were just lemon drives . not even sure what brand drive are in them . So my opinion of Dells is purely based on one persons experience and that is 1) They suck or 2) the warrenty service is very good .

Take your pick

dig up a few old copies of Pcworld, Every year in the user surveys the PC Company came out on top.....

Surveys are nothing more then a popularity contest, once again driven by marketing.
