420615 2006-01-13 00:31:00 Hey guys, well today the strangest thing happened... it seems all my bookmarks in Firefox have gone walkabout. All the settings were fine this morning @ 10am but when I switched my PC on again this afternoon just after 12noon all my bookmarks were gone.... my homepage was changed back to the Mozilla site.

I tried a system restore but that didn't work. I then decided to upgrade to Firefox 1.5... may as well I lost everything haven't I. So I install the new version and I open PressF1... funny thing is I didn't have to input any of my login details. I verified this by going to another forum... and sure enough the same thing happened.

What the devil is going on? I check the Mozilla Bookmarks folder in My Documents and there is nothing in there.

Anyone know what may have happened? It seems all my cookie information is still there but not the bookmarks... very weird indeed.

cheers

420616 2006-01-13 01:18:00 Thats odd..then again your cookies and bookmarks are stored in seperate locations so it makes sense for one to be affected and not the other.

First up, check your Recyle bin (who knows could get lucky!).

If you use IE you can also inport your bookmarks from there to FF (Manage Bookmarks / File / Import).

420617 2006-01-13 01:27:00 System Restore has nothing to do with User files - only SYSTEM files.

This doesn't help for now but you might want to download Mozbackup - handy little program that will backup everything - bookmarks, emails, address books - even skins.

420621 2006-01-13 05:18:00 Well I did all the above and there were no backups at all... which seems a tad strange. There was nothing in the default bookmarks file. Well after a long afternoon of sifting through some old files I have managed to retrieve most of my bookmarks... I will of course be backing them up regularly now.

cheers
