421636 2006-01-16 01:53:00 Folk,
I have a Gigabyte K7 Triton MOB GA-7VM400M(F) with Realtek AC97 soundcard integrated. For some reason my sound level has dropped to 50% (too quiet) and none of the volume controls in various places make an impact. Difficult to remove and reinstall so I guess I'm doing something wrong. Can anyone point me in the right direction. Just gone to broadband and I'm setting up Skype to talk to my daughter in Canada, so I want the sound right before I go through the process.
Awaiting with bated breath, so to speak.

421637 2006-01-16 02:10:00 I think we have that mobo. Are you using amplified speakers? If you are play around with the plug it may be old or lose.

Best way to test is just use headphones or ear phones, is it loud enof?

If still no, in my experience it has conflicted with some softwares. So why don't you go to device manager and write down all the driver files it takes. Delete them manually. Then reinstall the drivers from the Gigabyte CD-ROM.

421638 2006-01-16 04:13:00 Tried that, Nomad. Thanks. Only a marginal difference tho. Used to be able blast the music up high. I am partially deaf and need to hear the Skype chat through the earphone I have. So still looking for another solution. Did you mean all the mobo drivers or just the sound ones? Hard to tell what drivers are what now with XP.
Cheers,
Ken

421639 2006-01-16 04:21:00 The sound drivers. Go to device manager then to the sound card and to properties. Write down all the files the driver uses.

Go to windows explorer and manually delete them yourself, if not allow then get in via Safe Mode. Restart PC and if new soundcard is found .. carry on with your motherboard's CD ROM.

421640 2006-01-16 04:23:00 Try some other earphones/headphones or speakers and see if they are any diff. Nomad (952)
421641 2006-01-16 19:31:00 Nomad,
I've isolated what I think the drivers are. I'll list them here so you give me a heads up if there is any traps for the unwary.

421642 2006-01-16 22:30:00 If those are the drivers under device manager. Delete them manually in windows explorer. Restart if new hardware found, get our your CD to install them back. Nomad (952)
