| 421645 | 2006-01-16 10:44:00 | Hi i'm new here i'm looking for someone who can help me i've setup IIS 5.1 on Windows XP Pro up and it is all running perfectly fine, however the problem seems to be with my router i believe. I have a 4 port DSE ADSL router. The problem that i was told by a person trying to access my pc was they keep getting the "Forbidden -- You were denied access because:Access denied by access control list." I'm not quite sure what is causing this error i've gone through everything in my router trying to resolve it i think i've mapped port 80 properly. I've tryed with apache on Fedora Core 4 and get same error which is why i'm assuming it's my router. Could someone help tell me if i've done somthing wrong or give me a guide how to set it up?. Thanks heaps in advance for anyone who can help. :help: | Digitalx (9632) | ||

You can access it okay locally because you are logged on using a valid username. |

| 421648 | 2006-01-16 22:36:00 | The error message states what your problem is, ACL (Access Control List). You should set it up to list the available ports and services, on your router and on your hosting computer. Here's just a rough idea of what you may need to do: Some router settings offer the ability to set up services/servers, you would have to choose the httpd service or web server setting. Another would be using port forwarding where you point to the hosting computer's network IP and port 80 using TCP. You would then need to configure your firewall on the hosting computer to allow inbound and outbound on port 80. You may need to research more into ACL, but the restriction is usually because you have not set the correct access control up. Cheers, KK |

It would allow you to check that the IIS permissions work at least in the local network, a good start. If you're using a DotNet application, you'll need some extra info in the web.config file for anonymous authentication to work. |
