And you dont configure it in the BIOS, wherever its connected on the motherboard, (either under Primary or Secondary Master / Slave) .

Whatever it is, definitely wont work .

If this is what you're asking . The device has to be configured in the BIOS first .

The BIOS has to detect it first, before Windows, or an operating system will be able to use it .

It will read but not be written to,I am trying to use Deep Burner, but it says something about buffer over run and refuses to write.

421724 2006-01-17 13:58:00 If the writer has had its day would it still read?I have just tried a different programme to see if it would write from that but still it will not write. Lizzy (9633)
421725 2006-01-17 16:51:00 buffer overrun relates to the use of memory by the burner.......the device should have an onboard memory chip possibly 2mb or 8mb .......when you are burning or trying to, what else do you have runnin in the background, how many things in the system tray ?......how much spare ram ?...and maybe in the configuration settings for the burning program there is an error ?....newer burners tend to come bundled with nero which has 'buffer overrun protection' function. Ive seen plenty of situations where even on an older pc with little ram the burner will still work ok because the buffer overrun protectoin is working........

oh btw, when posting here about problems on your pc the more info you can state initially the better, it's taken several posts back and forth for you to tell us about the 'buffer overrun' and that might have helped in the beginning
