422108 2006-01-18 04:57:00 How can I tell when my computer was turned on and off?

My problem is I believe someone is playing with my computer in my absence.

Yes, I get improper shutdown messages etc but only after I been away out of the house. My guess it is little fingers, but believe it or not nobody is going to admit to it. :)

So, a bit of detective work is required to finger the culprit and knowing what time it was turned on and off would be a help. ;)

422109 2006-01-18 05:26:00 One quick way would be to look at "Event Viewer"

Click Start> Control Panel> Event Viewer> System.

There should be a list from most recent, going down to the last of events logged by the pc.
HTH.

opps, just noticed your using ME. not sure if above works with that OS..

422110 2006-01-18 07:54:00 Install a keystroke logger. goto www.tucows.com, search for keylogger bob_doe_nz (92)
422111 2006-01-19 06:23:00 Ok, I've found heaps of keyloggers, but which ones are safe and which ones will work with Ad-Aware, Spybot, & AVG? B.M. (505)
422112 2006-01-19 22:53:00 If your PC boot without login, someone could launch a game and shutdown the PC without ever touching the keyboard. So a key-logger would be of dubious value.

Candidly I don't know if this works with Windows ME, but if you look uder administrative tools you may see Event Viewer.

You'll want to look in the System event log.

You'll see something like "Information event id 6006: the event log was stopped" when the PC was shut down, and "Information event id 6005: the event log was started" when it was turned on.

The date and time of the events will match your PC's clock.

This, of course, will only work if Windows ME has an event viewer.

422113 2006-01-20 10:00:00 Thanks King……… but ME doesn’t seem to have any sort of event viewer?????????? :( B.M. (505)
422114 2006-01-20 10:28:00 I believe there are event loggers out there that are able to take screenshots periodically and store them somewhere safe. You might want to consider this product (www.download.com) listed under Download.com

Cheers :)
