2006-01-18 04:02:00 im planning to get a 6600GT 128mb AGP but I was wondering whether my 350W PSU is up to the task. i dont have many components in my computer; only 1 HDD, 1 DVD burner, 2 sticks of RAM, cpu, mobo and a modem. im on a very tight budget, under NZ$300. i dont really want to buy a new PSU as I havent installed any PSU's in the past. any ideas? jason_f90 (3544)
2006-01-18 04:06:00 That will greatly depend on what type of CPU you have and what brand your PSU is (is it an el cheapo type or something good like enermax??) Agent_24 (57)
2006-01-18 04:08:00 I have a FX 6800 LE 128mb running no problems on a 300W PSU. P4 2.53.

2006-01-18 04:24:00 You'll need to provide more details about your power supply, but its probably should be fine. Just because the system will boot and play some games doesnt nessesarily means its fine. Pete O'Neil (6584)
2006-01-19 04:18:00 My cpu is an AMD Athlon XP 2500+ (Barton Core) and my psu brand is Raidmax (same as my case). jason_f90 (3544)
2006-01-19 08:25:00 It would appear that raidmax is not one of the good types... you might have some problems with it but maybe not... if there is a problem you'll get bluescreen errors or the drivers will notify you that the card is not getting sufficient power Agent_24 (57)
2006-01-20 13:41:00 thanks for the reply. i suppose ill continue saving till i can afford a 6600GT and a new PSU. jason_f90 (3544)
2006-01-20 20:40:00 My cpu is an AMD Athlon XP 2500+ (Barton Core) and my psu brand is Raidmax (same as my case). Oh, with my new PC it is a Raidmax case also came with Raidmax PSU, Brought an Enermax PSU because Raidmax are a little dodgy with thier PSUs :horrified , thier cases seem good though :) The_End_Of_Reality (334)
2006-01-21 10:28:00 thanks everyone for the replies. ive just got a radeon x700 256mb AGP and it works flawlessly although i ran into a few bumps during installation. i can now get very respectable frame rates in graphically intense games such as FEAR which were previously almost unplayable. again thnx everyone. jason_f90 (3544)
