| 422681 | 2006-01-20 02:13:00 | I have just build my own PC, and also delt with Paradigm Pcs and they are great pressf1.pcworld.co.nz and I changed the PSU to a better unit, all I had to do was take out the four screws, sure I didn't take any connectors out but you just map out which one goes where and it will be easy, all those people who say building, replacing parts in your own PC is hard I believe are computer techs trying to ward you off their teratory pressf1.pcworld.co.nz If you replaced the PSU (Power Supply Unit) I would like to know how you did this without taking any connecters out from the motherboard. Surely the PSU connects to the motherboard? It does on my one anyway. You can take out the screws to remove the PSU. As the PSU is actually connected to the moitherboard by power cables I find it difficult to work out how you did this without removing connectors. In your opinion what is a connector? |

Yes I did replace the PSU, BUT did I say I had it plugged in and running on that PSU? NO Yes you are right it does connect to the MOBO so does mine... NOW :D I Got an Enermax PSU because I didn't trust the Raidmax one at the time I got everything else, therefor the MOBO was not installed, so answer me this, how could I take the connectors out of a MOBO that wasn't even installed? :p My opinion of a connector is something that plugs into something else, IE: Molex plugs into HDD :p Does that answer your questions??? :p |

If you don't believe me, compare the price of anything from Quay against Paradigm / Ascent / PBTech. Well fair enough. It is some time since I used Quay Computers. I actually use PBTech in Hamilton as it is only one hour drive from where I live. I manage to put in any compoent I want or can afford. As Annie asked for a Wellington Metla I pointed this person in that direction. Well not quite. I have no idea if there is a "Wellington Metla" I can actually build a computer but I was trying to get the original poster HELP closer to home. I don't use Quay computers at the moment as I do not live in Wellington. Price a part or component is not the same as putting a component in is it? We then need to know how to install and do the driver bit. I suppose Annie can get on the bicycle and go to Wanganui if this person wants to. |

A connector then would maybe a PSU unit plugs into a motherboard. From the PSU you can plug in a Molex connector to a Hard or Optical drive. What do you call a connector from the PSU into the motherboard? I was under the impression that annie has a Dell computer and needs help in Wellington. annie has a dell computer and wants some help. A connector then in your opinion is something that plugs into something else? You take ANY CONNECTER OUT OF ANY SOCKET ANY TIME. Probably the computer will not boot if you do that. |

| 422686 | 2006-01-20 03:08:00 | Ascent is near Manner's mall in Wellington . I'm not exactly sure I trust PBTech in Wellington, since I suspect they sell "gray-market" gear . They're on Vivian Street, across from Dick Smith . They are cheap, in particular their USB drives . |

And when I read more... "You suspct". Have you any proof? |

| 422688 | 2006-01-20 03:18:00 | could be a powersupply at fault.....could also be the motherboard... | drcspy (146) | ||
| 422689 | 2006-01-20 03:32:00 | Jim of Jim's Computer Services Ltd. Hataitai, is a good bloke, and his overheads will most likely be lower than bigger names like Quay. He's in the phone book. Incidently I noticed Quay Computers in Lower Hutt don't appear to have a service counter anymore. |
