Owner has bought a new note book.
I have removed the old hard drive & fitted it into a enclosure.

Works good.
Was able to retrieve all the pics & docs.
But importing the mail contacts is not going too well.
The Windows Live Mail/Contacts folder shows as empty.
The contacts folder in the main user only has 3 entries.
Should be 100 or more.

Was able to get the list from an old desktop but its a couple of years out of date.

That will be the default mail program.

1396748 2015-03-18 20:19:00 Have you tried the Export/Import route? Google the issue - there are heaps of threads for this. linw (53)
1396749 2015-03-18 21:13:00 That's exactly what I am attempting, but as I said the folder shows as empty. Driftwood (5551)
1396750 2015-03-18 21:37:00 Are these actual contacts, or just the saved autocomplete email adresses. Some users think the autocomplete is a contact list .

Put the hd back into the original laptop. Export contacts to usb stick, then import onto new PC.

:2cents:
If they have Outlook on the new PC, use that , not Live mail.

1396751 2015-03-18 21:51:00 That's exactly what I am attempting, but as I said the folder shows as empty. Depending what version of Live mail the old one is, will also depend on its location slightly.

BUT the actual Contacts .edb file is in a hidden system file so they need to be made visible in the Explorer Settings.

From tools / Folder Options / View / untick " hide protected operating system files" - then they will be visible.

Then using one of the .edb viewers 1101 linked you can see / save as a .csv file and import that.

1396752 2015-03-19 00:06:00 Thanks guys.
I'd forgotten about the hidden protected operating system files.
Then used EseDbViewer to convert them.

1396753 2015-03-21 09:11:00 Wonder when MS will default to show system files and show extensions. The latter is especially dopey considering the security issues involved. linw (53)
1396754 2015-03-21 09:20:00 I wouldn't agree with showing system files by default, but given that Windows no longer selects the extension by default when renaming, they do need to be shown. pcuser42 (130)
