1385050 2014-09-30 04:07:00 I've just bought a second-hand but barely used Pentax K5 DSLR. Couple of questions:

It hasn't come with the Utility CD. Is there anything on that apart from the Utility software? I've managed to download that, but I'm wondering if there is anything else on there that I should be interested in.

How can I display the firmware level on the camera?

Any help appreciated.

1385054 2014-09-30 08:14:00 Good stuff. I never think to check YouTube for that sort of thing. It answers all my questions about the firmware. It seems my version is 1.01, so an update is probably in order as the latest version is 1.16. Thanks.

All I need to know now is if there is anything else on the support CD apart from the utility.

yep its got the Pentax Digital Camera Utility 4 aka PDCU4 which is a cutdown version of Silkypix...basically it is a RAW convertor and post processing editor. have a search, its available for d/l.
People mostly don't like it as it has a quirky UI. I pixel peeped its efforts compared to lightroom, Rawtherapee and faststone. Seemed marginally better.
I just tend to use faststone (www.faststone.org)
RT or Gimp if more needed.
Great camera btw ! I only sold mine to get the K-5iis

If you update the firmware, don't forget to fully charge battery first :)

1385056 2014-10-01 00:21:00 Thanks for that. I managed to download PDCU4 - I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything. It does have an odd interface, doesn't it? I find I need it because The PEF files from the K-5 can't be opened by my version of Photoshop Elements. I'll probably tend to use DNG anyway.
The camera is replacing a Pentax K-100D, which died on me. That was a good camera for the time, for me, but this is definitely a step up and it means I can still use the same lenses and flash.

Great little camera the K100D
Don't forget you can tune AF for individual lenses with the K-5

Yep it's called AF fine adjustment. Page 111 in K-5iis manual, dunno about the K-5 one.
You can individually tune Pentax lenses from F, FA onwards.
Single universal adjusment also for other makers AF lenses.
cya over in the forum :)
