1385251 2014-10-07 02:22:00 You wont have enough film or sd card space for that

You'd have the same memory issue photographing motorists doing dumb things....

Idiots are idiots, no matter what kind of vehicle they use

1385252 2014-10-07 02:45:00 One big problem is there are not any real cycle ways/ lanes in a lot of places. Even when there are as Zippity mentioned they are not used by many.

We have a cycle lane down our road, but seriously its only for show. Its hard up against the parking area, so if anyone was in a car and swung opened a door it would easily cover most if not all of the cycle lane.

Off topic -- riding a bike still not as dangerous as this driving area fans-cheat-death (www.stuff.co.nz) ;)

Some very lucky spectators. Whoever wrote the article needs to look up the word miraculous in a dictionary though, no miracles in sight just dumb luck.

1385254 2014-10-07 08:04:00 Cars will be fined for not giving cyclist 1.5 meters when passing. Will cyclist be fined the same for not giving car 1.5 neters while passing car. And joncar, I have seen many a cyclist in wellington riding like krakka describes. Being prats,

Here's a question I would love to know the answer for :

Very often, and I would estimate 7 times out of 10 around our way, we have groups of cyclists who travel 2 or 3 abreast, taking up at least 3/4 if not 100% of the road lane. The roads I speak about are 70, 80 and 100km/hr roads and so hold up any traffic going the same way. Oh, and they do not move over to let you pass.

Now here is my question, since cyclists are required by law to stay in single file, how many fines are issued to offenders?

Cyclists ARE allowed to ride two abreast, so long as they are not holding up traffic. If they don't move over, then they qualify as prats, in my book. But that's still no reason to try to run them off the road, as so often happens. As to why the cyclists you refer to are not ticketed, two points:1. How do you know they aren't ticketed? You only see them as they pass you...2. If they are in fact not ticketed, perhaps you should ask at your local cop shop. Perhaps the police have other priorities - but I'm sure they would appreciate your input. johcar (6283)
1385256 2014-10-07 09:54:00 Cyclists apparently need 3 metres each to travel on a straight road, more on rough roads, much more on uphill roads, and the entire road width for fast downhill runs. Two of them will therefore require a minimum 6 metre lane, so obviously we will have to make all roads a great deal wider. Doubling car registration and fuel taxes should get some of the costs covered and a toll on pedestrians should cover the rest.
(Can't tax cyclists obviously, they are only doing it for fun.)

Two cyclists can ride next to each other but should take into account the keep left rule and not hold back traffic. Three or more people cycling next to each other is illegal, except in the case of a road race that has been given traffic management approval from a road controlling authority.

According to the road rule above, my question is a valid one in its entirety and I genuinely would be interested to know how many tickets are issued if anyone knows.

1385258 2014-10-07 18:10:00 Always the same rant from drivers who can do no wrong. Woe betide anyone who holds up a car for even one thousandth of a nano second. We have much more important issues in this country than this its pathetic the way people complain about nothing even remotely important. gary67 (56)

Unless there is a member here who work for the Police who is willing to provide that information, I would have to say your best bet is probably to ask the Police. I recently found a cool site where you can submit Official Information Act requests: www.fyi.org.nz

:+1:

Except there ARE some cyclists out there who ride oblivious to other traffic (just as there are motorists who drive oblivious to pedestrians, motorcyclists and cyclists). All of these people are prats of the highest order, as they lack any consideration for others.
