Don't forget if you are earning 500K a year or more then you are probably working between 60-80 hrs a week and have a lot of responsibility to go with it.

1384947 2014-10-02 02:10:00 This makes a $500,000 salary (www.nzherald.co.nz) look like pocket change Webdevguy (17166)

Responsibilities, maybe, but very unlikely that they will work more/long hours than an ordinary minimum wage earner in terms of average per month. They usually work much lesser hours, and maybe, on special occasions, have to work longer hours - probably once, twice, or a couple of times a year. And they get much longer annual leaves and lots and lots extra privileges/benefits.

From my past experience, the higher you climb up the pyramid the more responsibility, but lesser (actual) working hours ('cause, you have all the workers under you to get the physical jobs done), and of course, the higher remuneration.

1384949 2014-10-02 03:19:00 The ones I know that earn the bigger bucks definitely put in more than a 40 week and have plenty of organizational responsibilities Webdevguy (17166)

It sounds like your view has been tainted by bad experiences in the past.

You think?
There are plenty of people on minimum wage working those kind of hours too.

1384953 2014-10-02 03:49:00 Anyone unable to accomplish their tasks in 40 hours should wake up to the fact someone is making a dork of them. The more senior they are, the more likely it is to be self inflicted.
There will be someone more competent who can manage the job properly (probably for a lesser cost).

I see ANZ now want to pay for his pay rise by moving jobs off shore to India.

My fiancee earns just over $100K a year and often works more than a 40 hour week in order to get through work load. She is responsible for the work of 8 other teams which are made up of about 70 people in total. Those teams are part of a much larger organisation.

She is worth every cent they pay her.
