1385220 2014-10-01 03:33:00 " A proposed law change that could see drivers fined hundreds of dollars for not giving cyclists up to 1.5 metres of space when overtaking has truck drivers worried.

The new law could create situations where trucks and cars are forced to slow down and sit behind cyclists until it is safe to pass - but cyclists say any minor inconvenience is worth it to save lives. "

Er......I've had that situation already......cyclists think it's a minor inconvenience do they. hmm, I see carnage when there is a whole queue behind them.

Nail on the head.
And while most cyclists like any group would get the hell out of the way, there will be those Lycra-clad Nazi militants that will take the entire lane and force the traffic to wait just because they can.

1385222 2014-10-01 04:20:00 Yes some cyclists are bad and will do that but from the posts on here it seems there are a hell of a lot of Nazi drivers on here. Shame on you gary67 (56)
1385223 2014-10-01 04:36:00 What a terrible idea.
I give cyclists as much room as I can but ****ed if I will sit behind the ****s.
Roads are for CARS!!!

Horse and carriage drivers' probably said that about cyclists in olden days, lol.

I suggest you spend a couple of days driving around Wellington and you might just figure out why we give them a hard time. And to the man that rides the lay down bike in petone, I would think your days are numbered as no one can see you at all

Normally you can see his flag flapping as he peddles along. A while go he didn't have it, and he was almost impossible to see.

1385228 2014-10-01 09:57:00 Many cyclists are their own worst enemy's and a law to them selves. MANY seem to forget that there are road laws that apply when on a bike. Wonder how many actually know the laws and THEIR responsibilities and stick to them: (very few I bet)As for getting "doored" -- its partly the fault of the Cyclist - heres the code: www.nzta.govt.nz exactly what this cyclist appeared to be doing. If you ride a metre away from a parked car, this generally means you'll be riding in the middle of the lane - IN THE TRAFFIC FLOW - on most roads. So why give a cyclist a hard time for doing the right thing? As I have said in other cyclist threads over the years, there are definitely stupid cyclists there, but there is an equal percentage of stupid motorists. And there are a LOT more motorists on the road than cyclists. And you're never going to get rid of stupidity on the road, because people are stupid and/or will occasionally do stupid things. Suck it up, and be a little more forgiving on the road, no matter what kind of vehicle you use. johcar (6283)
1385229 2014-10-01 11:18:00 What pisses me off is the shift in responsibility to the motorist just because the consequences of being such a ****tard are more extreme to the cyclist. DeSade (984)
