| 1396402 | 2015-03-16 04:43:00 | Thanks everyone - much appreciated !! -- today we bought the smartphone that we had in mind (as per link in original post). Just getting used to it. --- PS - must change my icon - it looks like a constipated pixellated seal - and the last two words are correct - not sure about the first ! |

| 1396403 | 2015-03-17 05:54:00 | I have a 4g android smartphone, cost NZ$300 from Hong Kong, connected it to a skinny prepay, plan is $46 a month for unlimited calling and texting to aus/nz and 2.5gb rollover data a month. I set it up so my laptop could connect to it when I wasn't near any WiFi spots. It's all I use it for is when travelling and can top it up when needed as long as its not left for a year. If you top up each month (you can buy your plan whenever, if the data runs out you can just buy the plan again), your data rolls over, although I only top it up when required but I am thinking of just staying with skinny as its been good but its not aimed at business. 3g coverage is excellent and 4g around major cities/towns seems reasonable but further away you'll end up on 3g. Losing signal could happen depending on your surroundings too but its coverage is good, uses spark network. All in all, its better than a modem stick, cheaper and has more uses than just to tether to it. I use it to take photos, video call. So to me, depending on the phone and plan you get, it maybe more useful in your situation and definitely worth considering. Cheers, KK |

| 1396404 | 2015-03-18 01:50:00 | Thanks Kame for the feedback. We have bought the Sony Xperia E4 and although it is only 3G, it should be sufficient for our needs. Also it has a long standby rating for its battery, but not so good for frequent calling. Since we don't do or receive many calls it should be good for us. I will use the camera too at times when my SLR is not to hand, or just for snapshots. A whole new world ! | Misty (368) | ||
