I wouldn't go with the TP-Link - had a lot of issues with that series of modem having authentication difficulty, think it's with some particular cabinets, never did get to the bottom of it. For a decent, easy to configure all in one modem for basic home use, I would get the Asus DSL-N12E.

As long as the blinking UI opens and I can forward some ports to GPL goodness (www.youtube.com), I'm happy
Though a usb or two would be nice

1396188 2015-03-13 00:35:00 Reading up on the Asus DSL-N13...bit confusing :)

Cnet review (www.cnet.com) says it ' it's a little pricey considering its lack of security features and high power consumption'

M Ape ( maybe maunfacturers guff) says (www.mightyape.co.nz) it ' reduces up to 72% of energy consumption and utility cost.'

maybe it has 72% less high power consumption :D

Whats the open source router firmware of choice ? Tomato, gargoyle, openwrt ?
What are the advantages of 1 over the other ?

1396191 2015-03-13 10:57:00 Gargoyle, 100%, its based on OpenWRT but its basically a much sexier and easier WebUI vs OpenWRT's Luci.

Get the TL-WR1043ND, flash Gargoyle, pop a DrayTek DV130 in front of it for ADSL / VDSL2, then when you go UFB you can just rip out the DV130 (Provided your ISP doesn't require VLAN 10 on the WAN for UFB. Some do, some don't).

It's solid as anything, mildly difficult with the initial setup (flashing firmware), then its reliable, easy to use future proof... Its fantastic! :D
Amazing value for money. You can't buy better IMO.

Personally didn't like the FritzBox or the W8980 (DSLAM compatibility issues back in the day, as somebody else mentioned, put me off).

1396192 2015-03-13 10:58:00 Oh yeah HDD support along with DLNA streaming is built in to Gargoyle. Haven't used DLNA but the HDD sharing was fine. Chilling_Silence (9)
