1396711 2015-03-18 08:02:00 I am using IE8 at the moment but I am increasingly having problems with it not finding web pages. Tonight I hear on the news that IE8 is bound for the dump. What would the best replacement be for it considering that at the moment I am on rural dial up with speeds not exceeding 31.2Kbps. TIA Spooky spooky (4241)
1396712 2015-03-18 08:04:00 IE8 has been in the dump for several years. I suggest using Firefox instead, then web pages will actually work. pcuser42 (130)
1396713 2015-03-18 08:45:00 I switched to Chrome a few months ago. Can't say that changing browsers will definitely fix your problem given your VERY slow data rate but Firefox and Chrome are free so what have you got to lose by trying them? Except for very long downloads!! linw (53)
1396714 2015-03-19 08:14:00 Thanks for that. I try not to download using the dial up. When I need to download I go to town and use the free wifi and my tablet. When next I am in town I will d/l Chrome and see what I think of it. Spooky spooky (4241)
1396715 2015-03-19 10:34:00 IE8 was the last version supported by XP. Are you still on XP?

You should be able to use Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. I would install addblock+ as that will block a lot of banners and adverts etc being downloaded as well which should help on your dialup connection.

1396716 2015-03-20 06:24:00 You might like to try Opera It has a feature called Opera Turbo, which uses server-side compression to give you better browsing speeds when you are on slow connections. If you are on dial-up or pay for your internet connection by data usage, Opera Turbo can save you money, too. I also recommend installing adblock+ or adgaurd. Note turbo can cause problems with adobe flash and some other situations but can be turned off easily should you strike problems. tutaenui (1724)
1396717 2015-03-20 07:19:00 The easiest way to get more life out of Internet Explorer 8 is by installing Chrome Frame. This is a free tool created by Google that ingeniously allows you to “run a web browser inside of your web browser.” Installing Chrome Frame is very simple: you download the file, run it, and you’re done. After that, any websites that require modern features will use the code from Google’s popular Chrome web browser to display the page. Chrome Frame is completely transparent, meaning you won’t notice any differences in the way IE8 normally operates. It’s a nice, simple solution. willieaames (17340)
1396718 2015-03-20 07:28:00 Gosh, I thought I was the only one still using IE.
I have an old Compaq nx5000 on Vista using IE9, works ok.

And I would rather kill off IE8 ;) pcuser42 (130)
