1396282 2015-03-12 23:57:00 Interesting report from Emisoft, listing unreliable download portals.
No prizes for guessing the worst offender:

1396285 2015-03-13 00:50:00 And yet they, and other AV/malware software companies, still allow their own software to be available from these sites

Scaremongering to generate sales I think.
It is good to have a more complete list of sites to avoid.
I would java updates to that list , it bundles the Ask toolbar and browser hijacker

Also HP, Acer, Toshiba, Levonvo for having similar crap & trialwer preinstalled on thier PC's & laptops
Lenonovo was caught preinstalling spyware , spyware that turned out to be a serious security risk:why, becuase they were paid to & didnt care enough about their own customers.
Pre-loading AV trialware , that stops working after 30-days (HP etc) is one of the worst security blunders out there .

I....must...stop...ranting.. :-)

1396286 2015-03-13 01:20:00 Just use either:

http://www.majorgeeks.com/

or

http://www.freewarefiles.com/

absolutely no problems.

Click the how to geeks link in Lawrences post and read that article. Both the sites you link feature in it and both have PUPs.
Major Geeks is one of the better ones but still has this rubbish if you are not careful.

1396288 2015-03-13 02:55:00 One of the regular ones is Java updates, now contains (has for about a year) Ask Search. Easy to bypass, just don't go next next next, look what you are agreeing to before clicking. wainuitech (129)

Nothing wrong with ranting against this crap!

Good links, guys. I will have to be more sympathetic to peeps who bring me comps riddled with PUPs! And almost all comps seem to have Chrome installed.

It's damn disgusting to see just how many crap loaders there are.

Anyone used unchecky? Or is it loaded with this stuff as well?!

1396290 2015-03-13 19:23:00 Yes, I have tried Unchecky but it simply ensures that the boxes are unchecked,
saving you doing it manually. There have been occasions when I have manually
unchecked all the offer boxes and find that the add-ons have been installed even
though I declined them. Some of them have changed the default search engine
and worse.
What really pisses me off lately is going directly to a software manufacture website
for a download and being redirected to the likes of Cnet where the crap is introduced.

Yeah, me too. Quite unconscionable.

Maybe we need to get back to paying for everything thus cutting out the need for this mess?
